The Pre-Purchase Survey is the most often requested survey here at Hollander Marine. The Pre-Purchase Survey is a involves an extensive inspection of the vessel’s hull, deck and superstructure and machinery and systems. It also includes an in-use inspection of electrical and mechanical systems, propulsion and where applicable, auxiliary accessories. The Pre-Purchase Survey has an in water and out-of-the-water set of components. The in-water portion should include a sea trial, where all systems are observed and evaluated in use. The interior accessible sections of the hull, bilge, plumbing and electrical, as well as all firefighting and lifesaving equipment can be evaluated in the water. A deck level inspection of the standing rigging will be performed in water if it is a sailing vessel. (An aloft spar and rigging survey is available, see below) In order to assess the full condition of the vessel, an out-of the water inspection of the hull, and below the waterline gear and appendages should occur and is often mandatory for initial insurance coverage and financing. As a prospective buyer you should insist that the boat is hauled at a reputable yard so that it can be evaluated closely and with thorough detail. Hollander Marine Surveyors urges the buyer to be present during all phases of the Pre-Purchase Survey. Remember this is your best chance to determine if this is truly the boat for you.
